Peter was born in Brisbane, Australia, but adopted Cambridge as his hometown after moving here 20 years ago. He is a retired Architect.
Peter Wilkes said: I am a retired Architect with an interest in pen, ink sketches, mainly of buildings. Cambridgeshire, my adopted home is of particular interest to me. The ancient buildings, the landscapes and the characterful pubs. My line work is minimalist. The graphic quality of it is enhance by vibrant colouring and texture. I specialise in bespoke/commission work.
Drawing architecture is his passion and particularly drawing his beloved Cambridge. He loves the cosmopolitan atmosphere and living in the centre of the city is a constant inspiration.
Peter’s works are mixed media. He starts with a pen and ink drawing, which is then overlaid with permanent ink, collage and watercolour crayon.
With the techniques he uses, he tries to get the atmosphere of a place, but in an semi-abstract manner.
He recently completed a series of works on the theme of ‘War’.
Peter’s work was recently featured on the cover of the Cambridge Edition magazine.
